San Francisco Ghost Hunting

topic posted Fri, October 27, 2006 - 2:39 PM by  Philo
Hey. I'm Philo, psychic intuitive, paranormal enthusiast, looking for others in San Francisco who might want to get together and do some informal late-night ghost hunting, evolving into forming a group of people who bring different things to the group and work well together to do something formally. If none of us have one we could probably pick up a tape recorder for EVPs and an electro magnetic detector for not too much, working towards getting whatever else we might think we'll need. But for now, does anyone want to meet up for starters at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park? It might even be fun to kick things off on Halloween.

Hey Philo, I'm a writer seeking out paranormal experiences and I'd definitely be up for some ghost hunting (once it's a bit drier out). I don't have any equipment, but I'm more interested in making contact with the Other Side or whatever you want to call it than documenting. Have you ever done the Queen Anne hotel hunt someone else mentioned?

      By way of an introduction...

Once, when I was working as a bartender, I got clobbering by a very weird feeling. I didn't know what it was, but I spent the whole evening telling everyone how weird I felt. In fact, as I sat in my car that night, preparing to go home, I said to myself: "Man, feel WEIRD tonight!"

The next morning I learned that my grandmother had died that night.

So years later, some friends arrived from out of town; I put them up in a local motel, and came to their room to visit with them. Again the same feeling! There was a room that appeared to have been a kitchen, and was now nothing more than a dining room. But it felt dark and weird.

The room number is three. It's at the Der Ghan Motel on El Camino Real in Sunnyvale. I have not checked the history of the place; was there a death once in that room?

You would be surprised at how many people die in Hotels/Motels. I use to work for the coroner in Orange Co., CA. and we use to pick up people all the time in rooms, especially around Disneyland. Too much fun for them to handle I guess.

Have you been in Heinhold's First and Last Chance Saloon in Jack London Square?
              www.heinoldsfirstandlastchance.com/

It's got a fairly haunted vibe.

Well well well, after a few months of relative silence I'm glad to see this posting of mine has generated some interest. Thanks for the heads up about the book Randy, I've ordered a used copy that should be here soon.

I've lived in a few haunted locations over the years, including a couple places here in San Francisco worth mentioning. There was a flat at 19th and Castro and it was my second day living there and I was in my bedroom unpacking when I heard a humming sound. I looked through the door out into the hall and the humming grew louder and then a bright orb the size of a basketball floated slowly by my door. I followed it down the hall into the living room where it finally just evaporated. Needing to talk to someone about it, my new housemates were all in the kitchen and I walked in there and said, "You guys, um, hmm, well, I think, um" and one of them said. "Was it the orb or the lady?" Everyone had seen it at one time or another. Several years later I had a studio apartment on Sutter Street near Jones and there had been so many strange things happening I'd invited some other psychically sensitive friends over to meet a spirit named "John" because I needed someone else to tell me I wasn't crazy after awhile. They all sat down and I started to explain the things that had been going on in the apartment when the closet door opened on its own and opened up all the way. They were rather shocked and awed.

But anyway, Yes, that bar at Jack London square has a very strange feeling to it.

And no, haven't done any ghost hunting before in any formal sense.

But sure, let's do it. I was thinking about starting out with Stow Lake simply because it's outdoors and we don't really need permission to go wandering around there late at night. Thursday nights are probably the best for me, but others could work.

    Hi,

I'm a rabid Ghost Hunters fan and frequent insomniac (due in part to my love of Ghost Hunters). Though while alone I'd prefer the ghosties to leave me be I think I'd enjoy it with a group. So, if you get a group together please let me know. I have a small digital recorder though I'm not sure how much help that will be. I'm facinated by the mechanics of the instruments on the show but know very little about how they work.

Sorry for the slow response. There was a few of us talking about doing something, and then, well, it sort of almost happened, and then I / they / we got busy? Anyway, I'm interested in giving it another try. Anybody up for joining Suzie and me? The cemetary map is interesting and yes, the Presidio, the site of the former Golden Gate Cemetery, remember when the seismic retrofit at the Legion of Honor created this mess? They found 750 intact graves, and that's just there. Who knows how many others were just buried there.

While I would LOVE to take part in this, I live in S. Calif. so I cannot.

I would LOVE to go with a S. Cali group if anyone does that sort of thing.

By the way, this isnt in SF per se but if you are interested in checking out a house that is likely haunted (by at least two humans and a dog) that is in Pittsburg by Pittsburg Highschool drop me a message privately and I'll tell you about it.
